Fit Mom For Life

Mommy workout classes are probably one of my favorite classes to teach! I used to be a nanny and an assistant teacher for an early childhood education center, so incorporating kids into my fitness career has been a passion of mine! As a mom myself, I understand the struggles that come with finding balance in life. I have struggled to get up, get going, get dressed, get food, get motivated, get results and just about everything else. I thoroughly enjoy helping other moms get started or stay motivated to become healthier.

I started a Mom’s workout program last year that began by hosting workouts at various parks around town. At the time I was also working as a group instructor at a local all female fitness studio. I was given the opportunity to teach classes in the gym during the day, which was amazing because the moms were able to bring their kids to class with them! Most kids just played and got in a fun play date, so the moms got to work hard and focus on their workout. It was amazing and inspiring to watch! I felt truly blessed to be leading these amazing hard-working women. Unfortunately, I suffered an injury that preventing me from working out all together! Classes came to a stop, but not an end. I am motivated now more than ever to get my classes back and running again. I miss my moms group and I miss the positive environment we were creating for our children. I am happy to be on the road to teaching again soon!

Watch out Vacaville… Summer of 2017 is going to rock!!

Creative in the Kitchen!

I try to follow recipes and then my creativity kicks in and I end up just being inspired by the recipe and creating my own thing! This sauce base was awesome and made my house smell amazing all day! I used it as a crockpot sauce, but I would have enjoyed it over baked chicken and a side too! In fact, I’ll probably try that next time for a less stewed version. I don’t normally write down my recipes because most of my cooking is by smell and well whatever I’m feeling at the time LOL. So here is my best effort at sharing this recipe…. good luck and feel to add your own spin on this!!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp. Olive Oil

4 Roma Tomatoes (chop in half, core out the white center, broil for 10 minutes to soften, peel off skins, and chop).

6  Mushrooms (chopped in half or sliced based on preference).

1 Large Carrot (chopped fine)

3 Garlic Cloves (minced)

4 large Basil leaves

1/2 cup of Dry Red Wine

1/4 Cup Flour (which ever type you use)

2 tbsp. Orgainc Tomato Paste

Salt & Course Ground Pepper to taste (I always grind over the entire pan, stir, and add more as needed)

Directions:

Heat oil oil in a pan then add carrots and garlic first (let cook for about 1 minute), then add mushrooms, chopped tomatoes, basil leaves, salt, and pepper. Meanwhile whisk red wine, tomato paste, and four until smooth in texture. Then add to the pan and give everything a good stir!! Cover and let it simmer at a medium to low heat for about 15-20 minutes. Check to make sure the tomatoes have stewed and mushrooms have softened. Check the flavor and Add salt and pepper if desired.

Add to crockpot meal, top your fresh made meal, or use as a freezer sauce!

*Tip* If you want to speed up the process or want to keep the mushrooms large enough to pick out you can soften them beforehand by soaking in hot water for 10 minutes, strain, then add to the sauce mix as instructed.

Wake up and Work

Don’t have time to hit the gym in the morning, but you want to get the blood flowing? Warm up those muscles, get that blood pumping, and start your morning with the right mindset…. to get it! Whatever “it” is you will feel more motivated if you feel you have already accomplished something before even grabbing your morning coffee!! This routine is one of my favorites and I typically try to repeat the set three times!! This is also a great little mini set if you want to add a little workout to your morning run!!

2016-2017…. My World Flipped Upside Down. Part 1

Here I am! Vulnerable, open, and ready to speak my mind! My world has been turned up side down in the past year. I wish I had the patience to write it all out…. so here is the short version!

At the beginning of this year I was working as a personal trainer for a local gym. I had the privilege of working with women who both inspired me and supported me in my journey to building my career. Not only did I lead some of the regular H.I.I.T. class, but I had to opportunity to created a workout program from moms… it was my baby! This program allowed moms to follow a structured workout program with a trainer but also bring their little ones along to play! The moms loved the idea of being close to their children and fitting in a great workout. The moms were seeing results and the children were getting in valuable social time. It was a win win!

I was living out my passion and it felt amazing! Then one day everything changed.

I suffered an umbilical hernia and was told I had to stop working out. The realization that I would not be able to teach my own classes hit me hard. I put a pause on my classes, so I could focus on setting up a surgery day to repair the hernia. I was hopeful that getting it fixed and allowing myself the time to recover would have me back on track in no time!

Surgery day came and I was both nervous and excited to move forward! I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as pain, but my real concern was having to take a back seat as a mom. My sweet toddler did his best to help me, but he did demand a lot of attention. So thankful for my husband who stepped up to take control of the daily functioning of our home. Just a few days after surgery I began to move about my house, get off medications, and I started to think about switching into recovery mode. Then again, everything changed.

There is was…. I was staring at that double pink line and thinking this can not be real. I can not be pregnant. I just had surgery! I have stitches in my belly button! This can not be happening. My world was once again about to change and I was not ready for it. I was in shock……… img_8738

Self Love

I never understood what “self love” meant until I started my fitness journey. As a teenager and young adult I was insecure, self-conscious, withdrawn, and did not value my self-worth. So how did I change?

It began with some raw honesty… honesty from others who were close to me and eventually I had to be honest with myself. I began counseling  sessions, so I could talk freely about myself in a safe space and get some help directing my thoughts. It was truly a life changer!

I began to take control of my life in several ways. I was living in San Diego at the time with my husband and we had just become new parents! I followed through with my educational goals and completed my BA of Psychology 🙌🏼 Then it was time to focus on my body and my mindset! I began a fitness routine at home while I worked and took care of my son. I had to get pretty creative when I came to working out with my son around, but I made it work! I also started to clean up my diet. Nutrition was never something I valued, only because I never took the time to learn about proper nutrition and healthier options. I had to accept that reaching my fitness goals was only going to happen if my diet came first!

I found that the more I committed to change the more positive my outlook became. I began checking off goals from my list! With every checked goal I added another to the list. Never stop setting goals! I practiced self love by rewarding myself for positive changes, pampering myself (the outside should feel as good as the inside), and following my passions! I devoted myself to my family and surrounded myself with motivating, driven, inspiring people!

This insecure girl took control of her life and decisions and that is truly loving myself. Loving myself means choosing happiness and freedom. Freedom from my past, freedom from negative thoughts, and freedom from judgements brought on by others and myself. Loving myself is allowing “me” to shine.
